My research program broadly seeks to understand the environmental degradation of plastics, aiming for a molecular-level understanding of the modes in which these materials degrade and/or interact with other processes within the environment. Essentially, we hope to dene the relationships between polymer characteristics and environmental behavior both to predict the environmental burden of plastics in addition to establishing key pathways of the chemical degradation of polymers. Specific questions within my group are categorized under two themes of 1. How are polymer materials changed chemically and/or physically under natural conditions and 2. What is the impact of these changes on the behavior of the plastic.
